Roads & Maintenance

St. Albans Township maintains approximately 26 miles (52 lane miles) of roads within the Township.

A permit is required to install a new driveway, or to repair an existing driveway, within a St. Albans Township right of way.

New driveway locations must be approved by the Licking County Engineer's Office before you submit the township application. Once the county has approved the location, the property owner submits the township application for approval. The installation or repair within the right of way is completed by the St. Albans Township Road Department.

If the township road has no established right of way of record, the driveway approach is installed 30 feet from the centerline of the road into the property.

The township installs a 40-foot culvert with the required base and cover materials. Based on culvert and gravel pricing as of January 2022, the minimum materials charge for a new driveway entrance is $1,000. A larger or longer culvert, or special conditions, will increase this cost. New approaches and repairs are completed within 14 days of an approved permit, weather permitting.

A culvert permit is required for a ditch, drain, or conduit that carries drainage water under a driveway, roadway, railroad, pedestrian walk, or public way. The township fee is $200 plus materials, listed on the zoning fee schedule. Culvert permits for county roads are issued by the Office of the Licking County Engineer.
